The Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Study (STIAS) will host a round table on Agricultural Transformation challenges in Southern Africa from the 23rd to the 24th of February 2015, in Stellenbosch, South Africa. STIAS is an institute where 'top researchers and intellectual leaders are nurtured and encouraged to find innovative and sustainable solutions to issues facing the world and in particular the country and the continent of Africa'. It provides the opportunity for high-level research and intellectual development in an international context. It is attracting some of the world's leading scholars and researchers and is enjoying international growth and recognition. The STIAS roundtable which follows a series of preparatory workshops and seminars at STIAS during October and November 2014 will focus on sustainable agricultural intensification in Southern Africa. The participants will have an opportunity to examine ways in which this region's food security challenges can be met in the next thirty to forty years and it is hoped that this will create opportunities for researchers and other stakeholders to learn about the concerns and challenges faced by those trying to implement policies and by those directly affected by such actions. FANRPAN CEO and head of mission Dr Lindiwe Majele Sibanda is a delegate at this distinguished event. The theme for the Roundtable 'Strategic Directions for Agricultural Transformation in Southern Africa' is linked to a broader research theme on the 'Sustainable intensification of agriculture in Southern Africa' which STIAS will promote over the next three to five years with the support of the Wallenberg Foundation.
