The Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership in the Department of Business Management at the University of Pretoria seeks to recruit a Research Assistant who will join the Exxaro-University of Pretoria Programme in Business and Biodiversity Leadership. The programme facilitates research and generates evidence and knowledge on the nexus between business and biodiversity in Africa and how best to address the challenges evident in this nexus. The successful candidate will be guided and supervised by the Programme Director to:
  1. Gather primary and secondary data in a number of thematic research areas related to business and biodiversity;
  2. Undertake some administrative and communication-related tasks that enhance programme implementation and smooth functioning of the Centre (e.g. arranging meetings and workshops, telephoning clients, etc.);
  3. Attend internal and external meetings and workshops to represent the programme and the Centre;
  4. Develop and publish scientific papers in collaboration with other Staff Members of the Centre;
  5. Any other tasks that may be considered critical by the Business and Biodiversity Programme Director and/ Director of the Centre for Responsible Leadership.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Applicants will be expected to have at least an Honours Degree and research experience in areas related to environmental management, social sciences, geography, water resources management, development studies and related disciplines. Applicants with a completed Masters' Degree or already registered for a Masters' Degree will have an added advantage. Computer literacy is a basic requirement for the post as well as good communication skills in English.

Duration of the assignment
The Successful Applicant will be offered a one-year Contract, renewable subject to the Candidate's performance and availability of funding for the Business & Biodiversity Programme. It is preferred that the Candidate joins the Centre on 1st March 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. Possession of the permission/ right to work in South Africa will be an added advantage.

Terms and conditions
This will be a temporary assignment remunerated in line with the University of Pretoria Salary Grades for non-permanent staff. An appropriate Salary Package will therefore, be negotiated with the successful Candidate and within the confines of the University of Pretoria Salary Grades and conditions of service.
