A Montpellier Panel Briefing Paper Announcement

The Montpellier Panel launched a new briefing paper on Monday 17th September in Westminster, London. The Montpellier Panel calls for governments to take an urgent and transformative focus on the needs and perspectives of women in smallholder agricultural policy in sub-Saharan Africa in a new briefing paper. The paper recommends support by European governments and other donors for practical approaches to include women as well as men in agricultural policy processes and programmes. Dr Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, FANRPAN CEO addressed a public meeting in the British Parliament on Monday, 17 September 2012 as part of the Montpelier Panel ( The theme of the address is: Women in African Agriculture: farmers, mothers, innovators and educators.

Resilient people were a key theme of the Montpellier Panel's 2012 report, 'Growth with Resilience: Opportunities in African Agriculture'. The report made several recommendations aimed at enabling people to generate diverse livelihoods that provide stable incomes, adequate nutrition and good health in the face of recurrent stresses and shocks. On Tuesday 18th September the panel are convening in London to discuss how to move from recommendations to practical action with the aim of producing what will be the third Montpellier Panel Report in 2013.
