FANRPAN Partners' Meeting 2011
13 June 2011
ARC Convention Centre, Hatfield, Pretoria, South Africa
|
Hon. Sindiso Ngwenya played host to 78 delegates at the Annual FANRPAN Partners' Meeting on 13 June 2011 in Pretoria, South Africa. Partners incorporated members of the FANRPAN nodes, diplomats, donors, government officials, media and consultants.
The Chairman of the FANRPAN Board, Hon Sindiso Ngwenya, set the tone of the proceedings by delivering an inspirational talk. This was followed by the CEO of FANRPAN, Dr Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, who delivered an overview of FANRPAN, incorporating a history and evolution of FANRPAN as well as recent highlights.
The event showcased FANRPAN projects in five thematic thrusts:
- Food systems
- Natural resources and environment
- Social protection and livelihoods
- Agricultural productivity and markets
- Institutional strengthening and capacity building
Delegates were presented with an information pack which contained a synopsis of each of the FANRPAN projects. FANRPAN publications and project posters were on display. The programme also included the screening of two videos: Conservation Agriculture (CA) and the Theatre for Advocacy (TPA) project. The TPA and the Household Assets Vulnerability Assessment (HAVA), previously Househould Vulnerability Index (HVI), projects included panel discussions. This was complemented by a presentation on Communication and Advocacy.
The afternoon session incorporated Partners’ responses and proved to be interactive and thought-provoking. This was followed by a brief session whereby partners and FANRPAN staff interacted with each other. The closing remarks were made by Mr Ajay Vashee, a farmer representative in the FANRPAN Board.
The event proved to be successful and paves the way for the FANRPAN Regional Policy Dialogue which takes place in Swaziland, 19 to 23 September.
