Proceedings Report of Madagascar CAADP and PAEPARD Meetings
15 April 2011

It seemed necessary to think again about the commercial strategy in the context of Agriculture in Africa at the end of the 20th century. It was the origin of the conception of the "Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme”(CAADP), established under the aegis of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) of the African Union (UA).

After the endorsement, at the Annual General Meeting of FANRPAN in Windhoek/Namibia in September 2010, stakeholders in the process of establishment of "the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development (CAADP) have begun to appropriate the concept of CAADP and PAEPARD.

Thus, with the support of the "Food Agriculture Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN), based in Pretoria, South Africa, the Rural Development Policy Unit (UPDR) within the Ministry of Agriculture, responsible structure for leading the work concerning the preparation and coordination of the Agricultural Sector Process and FANRPAN Node Host Institution in Madagascar, organized on 1 March, 2011, a workshop meeting on the "Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme” (CAADP).

M Fungayi Simbi and M Ian Mashingaidze came to Antananarivo to represent FANRPAN Regional Secretariat.

About 40 participants from different stakeholder groups attended the workshop meeting. They were selected among the most significant stakeholders in the field of rural development and research to contribute to the best possible quality of discussion and formulation of recommendations on the way forward.

They were chosen from among most experienced persons in Madagascar, in the fields of agriculture, livestock, fisheries, research, micro-finance, NGOs, Farmer Organizations...

Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Livestock honoured the opening ceremony with their presence and have been active during the workshop meeting.
