WARM Project Planning Meeting: Malawi

The Malawi WARM project team had its first planning meeting in Lilongwe, Malawi on the 30th of July 2010. The meeting was hosted by the National Smallholder Farmers' Association of Malawi NASFAM the host organization for the project in Malawi. All national implementing partners were present, Bunda College of Agriculture of the University of Malawi the institute leading the research component of the project was represented by Ronnie Mvula and Story Workshop the organisation leading the theatre component was represented by Joke van Kampen. Also present was Conex Masankhidwe from CISANET representing the FANRPAN Malawi Node.

NASFAM was represented by Richard Petautchere the Programmes Coordinator who has been the interim coordinator of the WARM project in Malawi. Beatrice Makwenda, NASFAM Policy Coordinator will take over from Richard as the WARM Project Coordinator for Malawi as of 1 August 2010. Beatrice will be working closely with the research team Bunda College and the Story Workshop theatre team.

Dr David Kamchacha, FANRPAN Director of Inputs and Output Markets presented an overview of FANRPAN; this was then followed by a presentation on the project concept document by WARM Project Coordinator, Ms Sithembile Ndema. In her presentation she highlighted and the different roles of the partners and the linkages in terms of activities were clarified. The Malawi team like their Mozambique counterparts developed a work plan for the Malawi specific activities in relation to the contractual work plan and to the objectives of the project.
