The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) has hailed President Bingu wa Mutharika for the role he played in the commissioning of Comesa Treaty.
Secretary General for Comesa Sindiso Ngwenya heaped the praises during press briefing soon after meeting Mutharika on Thursday.
Ngwenya said both Comesa Treaty and the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) bear the intellectual signature of Mutharika.
“Apart from being brain behind the PTA, the whole of Comesa Treaty bears the intellectual input of Mutharika. I am therefore not surprised on his domestic achievement during the time he has been Malawian president,” he said
Ngwenya singled out the Shire Zambezi Water Way Project as a living example of a vision which has huge potential of benefiting hundreds of generations to come.
“In this region, Malawi is one of the countries that spend her hard earned foreign currency of transportation. And the Shire Zambezi Water Way has the potential of reducing that by over 10 percent,” he said.
Zambezi water way project is in its final stage and close sources indicate the first trawls could dock by next month.
