Angola to host 26th FAO regional conference in May

Luanda: Angola will from 3-7 May host the 26th regional meeting of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the Angolan Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Afonso Pedro Canga, announced on Friday in Luanda.
The minister told a press conference that the event would be on the theme, "Investing in agriculture for sustainable food security." It would be divided into two parts " a Technical Committee meeting on 3-4 May and the ministers meeting 6-7 May.
About 400 participants, including the general-director of FAO, Jacques Diouf, the regional director for Africa and ministers will attend the conference.
Participants will discuss issues about climate change, plan of the world meeting on food security, reform of the committee of food security, plan of immediate action and the report of the organisation about Africa. They sill also analyse the implementation rate of the recommendations of the last meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Angolan minister said the meeting would fix the date and venue of their next meeting, debate issues of the organisation on the programme of developing Africa 's agriculture in the framework of New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), as well as internal administrative issues, the budget and the action plan for 2010 /2011.
The Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Assuno dos Anjos, also said the conference would be a good period to seek sources of funding for agricultural production, adding funding for agriculture was extremely important for the country.
