Okahandja:  A week-long Ministry of Lands and Resettlement (MLR) meeting is underway in Okahandja, where the entire management team of the ministry from all 13 regions is locked up in closed-door discussions to map out plans for 2010/11.  In addition, the meeting will also review the ministry’s successes and challenges during the past financial year.

It is expected that at the end of the meeting, participants will formulate a new management plan to guide them in their work during the course of the year.

Permanent Secretary, Lidwina Shapwa, told participants during the opening ceremony that it is important that they come up with a workable strategic plan that will please the public. In this plan efficient service delivery should be the ministry’s most pressing concern.

Deputy Minister, Henock ya Kasita, in his opening remarks urged officials to be aware of the challenges faced by the ministry – and as such participants should plan properly taking cognisance of the factors hampering efficient service delivery.

“Management plan is a crucial tool that guides any organisation on performance of its daily activities to ensure that objectives set for the year are met and results are both visible and tangible at the end of the year,” Ya Kasita reminded the personnel.

He called on the participants to take note of President Hifikepunye Pohamba’s message to Cabinet and ministers earlier this year that this year must not be business as usual.

The meeting ends on Friday, and is supported by MRL developmental partners, the German Development Cooperation (GTZ), the German Development Bank (KFW Entwicklungsbank), the European Union and the Spanish Government through the Spanish Cooperation.
