Luanda:  The Ministry of Environment is preparing 15 Clean Development Mechanism projects for the so-called “Carbon Market”.

This was said on Wednesday in Luanda by the Environment minister, Fátima Jardim, at the opening of the 1st Designated National Authority meting, a governmental agency which authorises the development of MDL projects, whenever the actions meet the country’s  sustainable development criteria.

These projects, which should be linked to the possibility of reduction of emissions of greenhouse effect gases, are related to the improvement of the quality of water, power supply, agriculture, mines and mining production, transports, construction, industries and others.

According to the minister, the Carbon Market is becoming more and more competitive in the world which, she added, might change the organisational picture of the countries, particularly the developing nations.  Thus, through the Ministry of Environment, Angola has been seeking for opportunities, through coordinating activities, to provide the Designated National Authority with the capacity, both in human resources and logistics to achieve results.

Angola called on the industrialised countries to join the challenges of the country regarding the construction and reconstruction of modern and solid bases.  This first meeting was attended by the secretary of State for energy, João Borges, and representatives of various sectors associated with the  Designated National Authority, which was created under decree 02/10 of January 13.
