GCARD3 2015 | 2016
Global conference on agricultural research for development
5 April 2016 - 8 April 2016

The Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD) was created to promote effective, targeted investment and build partnership, capacities and mutual accountabilities at all levels of the agricultural system to meet the needs of resource-poor farmers and their communities. The GCARD process helps refine regional and global agricultural research priorities, as identified by different stakeholder groups and representatives.

GCARD1, in 2010, resulted in the "GCARD Road Map", a six-point plan for transforming agricultural research for development around the world. In 2012, GCARD2 identified pathways to impact, which led to 15 new commitments around partnership, capacity development and foresight in the CGIAR – the international agricultural research system.

GCARD3 (2015-2016) is the third Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development. Organized by the Global Forum and CGIAR, it is part of a continuing, iterative reform process, and builds on what has gone before in, and around, the previous two GCARDs.

GCARD3 will be an inclusive, participatory process and an opportunity to shape the future. It will encourage conversations for change in setting a new agenda for agricultural research for development and new pathways for uptake. The overall outcome will be the clear – and transparent – identification of international research priorities, and what’s needed to achieve future development goals, in particular for family farmers and poor communities.

GCARD3 Global Event to be held in South Africa 5-8 April 2016
