CSA study National validation National Dialogue Theme: Agriculture under a Changing Climate Taj Pamodzi Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia 11 July 2014

With the support of NORAD and in collaboration with FAO, FANRPAN presented and validated scoping study results of existing national policy frameworks and analysis of policy gaps in Zambia through a national multi stakeholder dialogue that was convened by the FANRPAN node hosting institution on Zambia, Agriculture Consultative Forum (ACF). Using Theatre for Policy Advocacy (TPA) as dissemination tool, FANRPAN partnered with the University of Zambia Drama Society to equip students with the relevant acting skills to enact the research evidence in a theatre performance.

The national validation dialogue was officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Wilbur Simusa, while FANRPAN was represented by Mr Agrent Chuula, FANRPAN Board Chair, Dr Lindiwe M. Sibanda, the FANRPAN CEO and Ms Aliness Mumba, Climate Change Project Officer. The workshop was facilitated by Mr Joseph Mbjini and Dr Lindiwe M. Sibanda.

The findings of the study were presented by Mr Misael Kokwe, the Technical Coordinator Climate Smart Agriculture at FAO Zambia. The dialogue was attended by over 50 participants drawn from the FANR sector in Zambia, including farmer organisations, farmers, government departments, INGOs, local NGOs, research institutions, private sector and development partners. The event also provided a platform for stakeholders to provide feedback on the CSA policy environments on Zambia. The dialogue discussions also addressed challenges, opportunities and possible synergies linked to advancing CSA in Zambia and improving smallholder farmers’ productivity and food security.
