Intra-ACP Mobility Scholarships for Masters and PhD Opportunities offered at Makerere University College of Health Sciences

Makerere University College of Health Sciences together with 10 partner Universities wishes to announce Masters and PhD scholarships under the INTRA-ACP MOBILITY SCHEME whose theme is "Partnering for Health Professional Training in African Universities (P4PHT)". The project is funded by the European Union and is covering both incoming and outgoing mobilities within the partner institutions and other countries outside the partnership in target group II. The goal of this project is to train and produce high quality health professionals with Masters and PhD qualifications in Africa to improve the health of population through teaching, research and provision of service.

Available scholarships tenable at Makerere University College of Health Sciences include:

  1. PhD scholarships (6):

    Programme offered is PhD in Health Sciences, covering any health science field. This is a four year programme commencing in August 2014. The programme will lead to an award of degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences of Makerere University.

    The scholarship covers tuition fees, stipend, health insurance and travel costs.

  2. Scholarships (8):

    Two Masters programmes are offered under this category.

    1. Master of Nursing in Midwifery and Women's Health. This is a two year programme, the first intake commencing in March 2014. There will be an opportunity for a second cohort depending on the availability of mobilities. This programme will lead to an award of degree of Master of Nursing in Midwifery and Women's Health of Makerere University.

    2. The scholarship covers tuition fees, stipend, health insurance and travel costs.

    3. Master of Public Health. This is a two year programme, the first intake commencing in March 2014. There will be an opportunity for a second cohort depending on the availability of mobilities. This programme will lead to an award of degree of Master of Public Health of Makerere University.

      The scholarship covers tuition fees, stipend, health insurance and travel costs.

How to apply:


The interested candidates, with Master’s degrees from recognized institutions applying for PhD Scholarships, are advised to write a three page concept note in any field in Health Sciences. Those with 1st degrees in related fields from recognized institutions applying for Masters Scholarships are advised to write a two page concept note in their area of interest. The concept note should indicate the title of the study, background, problem statement, rationale, objectives and methodology. Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply. All applications will be considered on merit and on first come, first serve basis.

For the Candidates to qualify for the scholarships, they MUST first seek and get admitted to the programmes of their choice under the normal Makerere University admission system. More information about Makerere University admission is available here: http://mak.ac.ug/ Ugandan applicants are advised to apply for INTRA-ACP scholarships in the other partner countries and NOT within Ugandan since mobility to another country is a pre-requisite. Target Group II

This group includes countries within Africa that are not in the partnership above, but are eligible to apply. Specific countries mentioned are Mali, Togo, Cameroon and Zimbabwe, however, other African countries under this category may apply.
