Zaka Super Seeds, a community based Seed Company supported by HASSP and GRM in Zaka managed to export its seed to Zambia on the 19th of October 2012. The seed exported is a bean variety called NUA45. A total of 2.3 MT was exported. The customers were IITA and Concern Worldwide Zambia. The seed was exported due to the adherence by Zaka Super Seeds to stipulated standards.
The main challenge that was faced in the transaction was dealing with 5 government departments each requiring and different set of papers. The departments were RBZ export registration requiring CD1 forms, PQS for the phytosanitary certificate and Seed Services for the OIC. ZIMRA weighed on the issuance of way bills. The ministry of Agriculture duly issued the export permit. After going through the whole process the transporter finally left Harare on the 17th of October for Zambia with the consignment worth $ 8078.00. This money will improve the profit margins for Zaka Super Seeds as a premium price of $3.50 was charged.
