Master's and PhD degree bursaries / fellowships

The Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership in the Department of Business Management at the University of Pretoria seeks to recruit master's and PhD candidates to enrol for studies funded through bursaries provided by the Exxaro-University of Pretoria Programme for Business and Biodiversity Leadership. The candidates joining the Programme will be expected to carry out research and generate evidence and knowledge on the nexus between business and biodiversity in Africa and how best to address the challenges evident in this nexus. It is anticipated that each of the selected candidates will develop a proposal and implement research in one or a combination of the following thematic areas:
  1. land rehabilitation and biodiversity offsets
  2. framework for business environmental compliance
  3. corporate ecosystem valuation and quantification of business risks and opportunities
  4. water resources, pollution and waste management
  5. climate change, biodiversity, and eco-efficient technologies
Successful candidates will work under the supervision of senior academics in the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership and other academics partnering with the Centre.

The Programme for Business and Biodiversity Leadership is interdisciplinary. Applicants will be expected to have an academic and professional background in environmental management sciences, social sciences, geography, water resources management, development studies and related disciplines.

The bursaries will cover costs of tuition as well as a reasonable living allowance in Pretoria, South Africa.
