FANRPAN to participate in the Fourth Joint Meeting of the Technical Committee of Agriculture, Environment and Natural resources and Joint Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources

The joint meeting will bring together Ministers of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources from the 19 COMESA Member States and will be preceded by a Technical Committee meeting of senior officials from 18 - 20 July 2011. This is a follow up meeting to the Third Joint Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources held in Lusaka, Zambia from the 15 - 17 July 2010.

The Technical Committee of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources meeting will be followed by the joint meeting will bring together Ministers of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources from the 19 COMESA Member States.

The theme of the meeting is:
CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT


The joint meeting will bring together Ministers of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources from the 19 COMESA Member States. Purpose of the joint meeting:
  • To review issues such as implementation of decisions taken with regard to implementing the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) and other related regional Agriculture programmes in the COMESA region
  • To review regional food security situation and measures that can be put in place to increase agricultural productivity and the provision of sustainable agricultural markets
  • To critically focus on measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change and actions for sustained support to agriculture, including conservation agriculture.
