Objectives of the session:

Africa has contributed the least to global emissions, yet faces the greatest threat to human livelihood's in terms of food security. The topic of the video conference will explore the impact of climate change on food security and rural development in Africa in particular, as well as approaches to support and scale up climate resilient agricultural systems. Topics will include:
  • Understanding the food security challenge and risks posed by climate changes.
  • Mechanisms and technologies to productively respond to regional food security agendas.
  • Investment in sustainable agriculture.
  • Regional knowledge sharing for adaptation.
  • Policy coherence in common governance structures such as SADC and AU.
The event is organized in collaboration with the South Africa Country Office and will offer an opportunity for practitioners and technical experts to reflect on their experience and knowledge on these topics. It is envisioned that the dialogue will catalyze further actions for a food secure Africa in the context of climate change.
