The conference organized by the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture (REA) of the African Union Commission (AUC), together with the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA), in collaboration with the Government of Malawi was organized in two sessions: AU Member States Experts meeting 26 - 27 October 2010 and AU Ministerial meeting 28 - 29 October 2010.

The conference which convened under the theme "Delivering on Africa's Agriculture Development Agenda" was a follow up to efforts to fast - track implementation of the African Food Basket Initiative.
