FANRPAN Participates at the Rockefeller Foundation Africa Grantee Convening
14 April 2010 - 16 April 2010

FANRPAN participated at the Rockefeller Foundation Africa Grantee Convening that was held in Nairobi, Kenya from the 14th to 16th of April 2010. The objective of this meeting was to share the work that the Foundation is supporting in the region across all its issue areas. The convening was also expected to provide the Foundation with an opportunity to share its current thinking in moving its initiatives towards utilization of results based management, revamping of the grant making process and also to share availability and the application process of its facilities at Bellagio in Italy for conferences and other residential uses.

The convening provided an opportunity to actively seek synergies between the Foundation’s work in the region and how to exploit such opportunities. Group sessions were held during the convening allowing participants in various thematic fields an opportunity to learn from each other and seek out synergies that may not previously have been maximized.

FANRPAN is implementing a project funded by the Rockefeller Foundation on “Building Climate Change Resilience in Africa’s Agricultural Research Programs.” The project explores the opportunity of bridging the gap by stimulating an interface between climate scientists, agricultural researchers, policymakers and development planners to develop local perspectives on climate proofing agriculture research. In addition, the project also explores the opportunity for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue platforms to ensure full participation of relevant stakeholders in creating a framework for climate proofing Africa’s agriculture research. The project is an 18 months (November 2009 – April 2011) project, to be implemented in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The objectives are:
  • Regional Scientific Networking: to link climate science research with relevant agriculture research in the region and internationally;
  • Science-Policy Interface: to link national researchers with policymakers, the private sector, civil society and representatives of regional agriculture and climate change programmes; and
  • Knowledge Management and Communications: to collate, package and disseminate agriculture and climate policy briefs outputs, and news for use by key stakeholders.
