FANRPAN participates at the Pan African Agribusiness Consortium (PanAAC) East and Central Africa Agri-business Conference in Nairobi
12 October 2008 - 15 October 2008

FANRPAN was represented by Communications Consultant, Mr Francis Hale at the recent PanAAC East and Central Africa Agri-business Conference held in Nairobi.

The conference theme was "Pro-poor Agribusiness growth: mobilizing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in African Agribusiness". The need for a continental agribusiness body was intimated in June 2007 during the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa's (FARA) 4th General Assembly held in Johannesburg. The PanAAC East and Central Africa Agri-business Conference is the first of four consultative meetings targeted at the main regions, to be followed by similar conferences in southern, western and northern Africa.

Key organisations such as ASARECA, AGRA, NEPAD, COMESA and RIU were represented at the conference. A committee with representatives from the East and Central African regions was established to strengthen and complement the efforts of the interim steering committee, and to collaborate in putting together a draft working document of PanAAC. This draft will be shared with the delegates after 15 November 2008, and will form the basis for follow up workshops across the other regions.
