FANRPAN CEO, Dr. Lindiwe Majele Sibanda and other African Diplomats participate at the World Food Prize at the invitation of the Partnership to Cut Hunger and Poverty in Africa.

Objective:

To stimulate an open discussion with African ambassadors and visiting African public and private sector experts on challenges and opportunities for improving Africa’s public and private investments, increasing U.S.-Africa partnership in agricultural science and technology. The discussion will focus on practical ways that different institutions and countries are using to build-up needed science and technology capacity for Africa’s development. The panel will also reflect on issues emanating from the World Food Prize International Symposium.

On Wednesday 17 October The FANRPAN CEO was guest speaker at the World Food Prize in a panel discussion that followed the keynote address by the 2007 World Food Prize Laureate-Dr Nelson.

The session on Women in Science and Global Agriculture - Visionaries Paving the Way for International Agricultural and Scientific Advancement was hosted by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.

The panellists were three eminent women:

  1. Dr Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, CEO of FANRPAN;
  2. Ms Kristin Penn, Senior Director, Agriculture and Rural Economy, Millennium Challenge Corporation;
  3. Dr Nina Federoff, Special Advisor, Science and technology, Secretary of State.
The panel session was preceded by keynote addresses by three laureates: Dr Philip Nelson 2007 laureate; Dr Monty Jones 2004 laureate and Dr Catherine Bertini 2003 laureate. The session was chaired by Ms Patricia Sheikh, Deputy Administrator, Foreign agricultural Service, USDA
