Introduction

In 2005, FANRPAN in conjunction with SACAU conducted a regional study to establish a database of farmer organisations in Southern Africa. The study also identified various challenges constraining the smooth operation of farmer organisations and concluded that;

  • The farmers community is too fragmented, with inadequate linkages at regional level
  • The available skills and knowledge are not shared across the region
  • The level of commercialization and engagement in agricultural trade is still very low.
